May 25, 2003—BIVIO NETWORKS™ COMBINES HIGH AVAILABILITY WITH LEADING PERFORMANCE
The Bivio 1000S™ Delivers Industry’s Best Performance and High Availability with Check Point FireWall-1® and VPN-1®
PLEASANTON, CALIF. — May 25, 2003 – Bivio Networks™, a leading supplier of secure IP-service platforms, today announced the availability of the Bivio 1000S, a high availability security platform. The Bivio 1000S incorporates a combination of technologies to deliver a solution that outperforms other Check Point appliances and delivers non-stop availability. The result is a solution that network operators can confidently deploy in environments that are dominated by small packet traffic such as web commerce, e-commerce, VoIP, online gaming and wireless data applications.
"The Bivio 1000S extends our technology lead to include high availability, offering the customer a choice of active/active or active/standby while maintaining all sessions," said Elan Amir, chief technical officer for Bivio Networks. "We are leading the industry in performance and high availability. Customers demand both today. Bivio Networks eliminates the need to compromise favoring one or the other."
The Bivio 1000S incorporates 1-for-1 redundant system elements, an HA computing architecture and industry standard VRRP protocol to deliver best-in-class high availability. The system contains two eXpressLANE™ Processors, two Application Processors, four network interface modules, dual power supplies, and dual fans offering complete system redundancy. The Application Processors employ a unique multi-CPU architecture that enables any single CPU sub-system to fail while maintaining full system operation. Active/Active and Active/Standby communication between system elements is accomplished via Bivio’s Virtual Rack™ technology and the industry standard VRRP protocol enabling confident network implementations.
Performance of the Bivio 1000S is 2 times that of the Bivio 1000 in the active/active configuration. The system delivers 4 Gbps of throughput at 1518 bytes with FireWall-1. Performance at small packet sizes rivals that of ASIC-based systems. For example, throughput for 64 byte packets is 3.2 Gbps, 82% of maximum with 400,000 active sessions, an industry first with Check Point’s software.
The Bivio 1000S is the optimal platform for security services delivering superior ROI. This is possible due to Bivio’s unique and superior system architecture that delivers breakthrough performance at all packet sizes and under heavy session loads. Bivio is the only security appliance that can claim exceptional small packet performance, session rates and 82% of line rate throughput at 64 byte packets in a redundant configuration. The system is packaged in a small form factor to minimize space requirements. In addition, the system delivers future value by enabling new security or IP services to be added via remote software upgrades.
The Bivio 1000S system is available immediately and offers a variety of Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet interfaces.
