PLEASANTON, CALIF. — April 7, 2003 – Bivio Networks™, a leading supplier of secure IP-service platforms, today announced the Bivio 1000 has been certified by Check Point Software Technologies as part of the 'Secured by Check Point' appliance program. As a result of the rigorous certification process, the Bivio 1000 is ready for production deployment. The Bivio 1000 is a multi-gigabit throughput, carrier class, security platform that runs VPN-1®/FireWall-1® Next Generation™ (NG) software from Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ: CHKP).

" The Bivio 1000 platform is a powerful addition to Check Point’s OPSEC appliance program for high performance carrier-class solutions at an attractive price point," said Ed Snyder, CEO of Bivio Networks. "We are excited that the Bivio 1000 is now OPSEC certified and ready for deployment."

The Bivio 1000 security platform delivers uncompromising performance at small packet sizes and is ideal for applications such as web commerce, e-commerce, VoIP, wireless data and online gaming. The system incorporates a unique combination of technology including network processors, multiple CPUs, scalable computing power and an open Linux OS in a small form factor. The system is fast, flexible, cost effective and robust for enterprise and service provider applications.

"We are breaking new ground with the highest performing Check Point security platform. Customers now have a platform that is competitive with ASIC-based security appliances and offers industry leading, feature-rich solutions from Check Point," said Nate Walker, Bivio’s director of marketing. "Bivio’s partnership with Check Point Software and the Tolly Group test results validate our technology and ability to deliver the best-in-class performance for Check Point’s software. "

Bivio 1000 Security Platform Benefits and Features
The Bivio 1000 platform delivers uncompromising performance and unmatched flexibility for security applications. For example, Tolly Group test results illustrate the Bivio 1000 delivers ASIC-like performance to Check Point FireWall-1 software under heavy session loads. Bivio is the industry’s leading performance Check Point security platform, delivering exceptional small packet performance, session handling and 82% of line rate throughput at 64 bytes.

Patent pending eXpressLANE™ technology accelerates packet processing and ensures that packet handling rules applied on all interfaces are processed and forwarded at multi-gigabit throughput regardless of packet size, achieving performance increases many times that of server-based solutions and competitive with the performance of ASIC-based solutions. The Bivio 1000 platform simultaneously achieves the following performance benchmarks:

  • Check Point FireWall-1 – 2 Gigabit per second throughput at 1518 byte packets, 1.6 Gbps throughput at 64 byte packets
  • Check Point VPN-1 – 1.2 Gbps throughput, 40,000 tunnels

The Bivio 1000 with Check Point software is comprised of pre-loaded VPN-1/FireWall-1 NG software and system hardware that includes the multi-gigabit eXpressLANE™ Processor module, the Application Processor module, power supply and modular network interfaces. Multi-gigabit performance is enabled by Check Point’s SecureXL performance technology. The system is packaged in a small form factor that incorporates redundancy and scalability required for deployment in enterprise and carrier networks.

The Bivio 1000 delivers a unique combination of price and performance with superior performance for all packet sizes. In addition, the system delivers future value by enabling new security or IP services to be added via remote software upgrades.
